Is your business visible when people ask Google AI or ChatGPT?

Search has changed. People ask an assistant and get one answer. Here is how a hospital, dealer or local business gets into that answer, and what it has in common with old-fashioned SEO.

Type “best packers and movers in Pune” into Google today and before any blue link you get an AI overview: a paragraph naming a few companies, with reasons. Ask ChatGPT or Gemini for “a dermatology clinic in Panvel with good reviews” and you get a short list with names.

If your business is not in that paragraph, you are invisible to the person who asked, even if your website ranks third on the page below.

Why some businesses get cited

AI assistants build their answers from sources they can read and trust. The sites that get cited share a few traits.

  • They say plainly what they do, where and for whom. A hospital page that says “24-hour emergency, 30 beds, Nanded Road, Parbhani” beats a page that says “world-class healthcare”.
  • They are structured. Organisation, service, location, opening hours and review data marked up with schema so machines can read it.
  • They answer real questions. Pages that answer “what does a hair transplant cost in Pune” get used by an assistant answering that question.
  • They are consistent across the web. The same name, address and phone on the site, on Google Business Profile, on directories.
  • They load fast and work on a phone.

None of this is new. It is what good SEO always was, with less tolerance for vague marketing copy.

What changes in how you write

Write for the person asking a question, not for a slogan. Every service page should state what the service is, who it is for, what it costs or how pricing works, where it is available and how to contact you. Add a short FAQ with the questions customers actually ask on the phone. Put your legal name, address and phone in the footer of every page.

What changes in how you build

A static site that loads in under a second, with schema markup for the organisation and each service, a sitemap, clean URLs and a blog that can grow. Hosting for a site like this costs almost nothing. This website is built that way.

Measuring it

Classic rank tracking tells you where your blue link sits. For AI answers you have to ask the assistants the questions your customers ask and record whether you appear. We built Citeloop, a platform that does exactly this across clients and tracks the work done on each site, because a spreadsheet stopped being enough.

Where to start

Run an audit. A few hours of work usually finds the same things: missing schema, vague service pages, inconsistent business details, slow pages and no FAQ. Fix those first, then start writing answers.
